The store I work at allows a employee to sit in on the Monday manager meetings because he has been there a long time. Managers are a joke and most are unqualified for the position. My manager in hardware blatantly ignored my availability and when i went to HR, they immediately assumed the issue was my fault and was passive aggressive/condescending to me, not to mention when he "fixed" my schedule, he slapped me with an 9 hr shift which-due to health reasons-is dangerous for me to work and that should have been on file (though considering me telling them my availability wasn't on file, i doubt that was there either). You don't have much vacation time. The thing that was unfair about it is that the smokers seemed to never get in trouble for going over on break times whereas I was always getting in trouble for it because I didn't smoke. Okay place to work just don't plan on making it a career, a very clicky high school feel to it some Menards may be good but you don't know until you try the individual store. They don't value personal time and work hours can change consistently, usually mandatory overtime. They use IPS and just enough benefits to lure unsuspecting people in, but it doesn't make up for the lack of pay and perks, no work/life balance, and the harassment you have to put up with daily there from rude customers and clueless co-workers/bosses. Management does what they want, This job is the typical dead end job unless your in corporate. In fact if you upset said employee you would find yourself in a sit down with The General Manager and Hr. Unfortunately this is becoming a more and more common thing these days. In this department I'm supposed to be a stocker, putting items on shelves, restocking things, checking stocks, and pulling things if I have to, but instead I'm both a stocker and a sales representative. I wasn't told I'd be doing a sale's rep's job and creating kitchen/bathroom/etc. Same thing with the two paid for 10 minute breaks. I hold a degree in manufacturing yet I was offered a laborer position. It's already not a glamorous position in anyway, doesn't help your wearing a neon yellow vest, you do literal grunt work while being understaffed. This upset me, but it's whatever, rules are rules and if that's the rule I can't be too upset, so I said "Alright guess I'll be a stocker then." Stop talking to employees like they are children. Never worked for such a disorganized company and a hostile work enivronment in my life! Here is the link for the item specifically, which I have used for awhile now. Some managers and co-workers are cool though and plotting there way out for something better. There is too many people at this place wanting to play "boss man" and take breaks with the "managers" for half hour but yet the people that do this in my department are not "managers" or even "assistant managers" but yet they evidently get the privelege of carrying around the radio and phone and telling me what to do on a daily basis. Corporate runs this place based on fear from them from there crazy policy and procedures whi, ips, weekend pay increase, holiday gifts, some co-workers, incompetant management, "big brother" corporation, low pay, benefits, job training non-existant, poor scheduling system, no work/life balance, impossible goals in unrealistic timelines, rude customers, leads to high stress and low self esteem, Start off the day at 5am. I am not sure if it was predatorial or just something she was used to doing? Alot of managers are lazy, liars, lack ethics & professionalism, play favoritism, micromanage, clueless on how to run a business, and don't appreciate & are disrespectable to employees. Few managers have anything positive to say or acknowledgement for things done right, always point out what's wrong using negative reinforcement. The schedules are very flexible to meet the needs of any individual employee within reason. The amount of turnover that I witnessed could have been prevented if there was more appreciation and listening, instead of yelling and blaming. There is no accentive to move into management and the contracts managers have to sign are ridiciulous and even break labor laws. In general, management has no life since they work 55+ hrs every week, fined for every petty incident, must relocate stores constantly to move up, and follow ridiculous policies & procedures from the corporate, no thanks! profit sharing, friendly coworkers, flexible scheduling, faced paced work days. Workdays go by fast, and there's always plenty to do. I must say that the way this place operates, at least when I worked there 7 years ago, is very weird. It is very difficult for most to advance because of the structure in management. If you are a minority, advancement will be painfully slow or you won't advance as fast as your caucasian counterparts. Sometimes there is none at all so you attempt to look busy until they get something which could be later in the day when you are getting ready to clock out. Profit Sharing day was degrading, more on that later, which showed no minorities as managers, an, stable job, if you like repetitive jobs, if you like direct without have to think much, short breaks, work performance review, unsupportive of minority advancement, culture is degrading, fear of management, mandatory overtime, work/life balance, little vacation time, Don't get me wrong, the pay (around 13 right now) is good, but they threw me in with pretty much zero training. I am actively searching for another job at this time because they pay sucks, the hours suck, too many lazy people who like to flaunt their weight around and act bossy and do absolutely nothing but stand around and talk to the person down in electrical all. Weekend and Summer Time Employee - Building Materials. Good but the base pay was lower than what it was supposed to be. The management team will love you if they like you. All their money and benefits isn't worth your time and sanity to stay here in the long run. Everything, Management, Strict Timed breaks. Compensation and benefits are not great. on the weekends we would be lucky if we had two courtesy patrol members scheduled. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. There, my manager was very good. Give breaks on time, train more people for service desk so the few that do work up there don't get burnt out. The management was atrocious. All their money and benefits isn't worth your time and sanity to stay here in the long run. It seems like they Play favorites. I thought about working day shift at one time but the hours for that shift are weird too from 5am until 3:30 in the afternoon. If you don't mind doing some manual labor and being pushed around, as well as not having a balance work life this is perfect for you. The hr lady won't promote you to anything unless you are her friend on Facebook or booze buddy who partys with you then you get treated like a king but anyone else forget it. I trained all new employees and manager-trainees. After learning all the roles of the department, only crew member to accomplish that, was offered a "lead position" after ONE year! They're pretty basic questions, but the fact I have to ask these questions just feels wrong. The Employee Turn over rate ESPECIALLY in Courtesy patrol is so high for a reason. If you work second shift like I did, you work from 4:00pm until 2:30 am. One of the managers would grab my thigh, shoulders and squeeze while giving me compliments. All work is seen as a team effort, though each individual is recognized by the individual work and service they provide the company. I was told I'd be a stocker. wanna be bosses, people who aren't managers telling you what needs to be done and how to do it, people talking down to you like you are not smart. Only one forklift in this whole place to tend to all the departments and guests. Your employees should be trained, not just thrown out on the floor and expected to know everything just because that's the department they work in. All employees are referred to as "team members" and with that in mind, work is done as a team to better the whole of the store. How is this not fraternizing with management? work in inclimate weather, lack of care towards individual store's needs, very wasteful. Looking at the reviews most of the highest rated reviews were located at the retail locations. Of the employees are satisfied about their pay. I was new and excited wanted to help so my schedule was changing a lot. All my managers and supervisors did not pay into the health insurance plans. Some managers and co-workers are cool though and plotting there way out for something better. Also be more respectful to your carryouts, as they are trying to get carts in, help customers, do propane exchanges, take big returns and taking red and blue carts back. Most of the work is done with the use of a forklift of an order selector. Stop cutting hours on front end when we were one of the only departments to make payroll. Poor scheduling, bad managers, little to no training provide (bad especially if they expect you to work with design programs). when you work at menards if you are sick you can literally punch in tell them you are sick punch out leave and nothing happens. That's not the bad part. Fast paced, highly team oriented work environment. Press J to jump to the feed. Loading and unloading flatbeds and semi vans is the most prominent aspect of the job. I have found that individuals who likes to have direction and not do too much thinking, or simple repetitive work this is a good place for you. layouts for customers. Corporate runs this place based on fear from them from there crazy policy and procedures whic, IPS, weekend pay increase, holiday gifts, some co-workers, terrible management, "big brother" corporation, low pay, benefits, job training non-existant, poor scheduling system, working 8-10 days straight w/o a day off, no work/life balance, rude customers, Going home or turning in your two weeks notice, The good customers I do get and the team I work with on a day to day basis. All the full timers work 4 ten hour shifts. It may not seem like much but a couple minutes here and a couple minutes there pretty soon adds up to be, Decent money for entry level job, extra 2.50 an hour on Saturdays and Sunday and if you work past midnight on Fridays, day goes by fast when there's a lot of work to do, you get to meet a lot of different people, a lot of overtime when it's busy in the spring and fall, Cold weather, expensive insurance, weak managment, low raises, low chances for promotion, I worked for about 2 months at the Menards in Florence, KY. What is a typical day like for you at Menards? One morning i was at home doing in home training (yes i really wanted to go all the way with menards, ) I was looking at my schedule for later in the week and seen that my schedule had been changed from noon that particular day to 9 am without any notice given to me I arrived to work at 10 am punched in and got written up 5 points!! To rub salt in the wound, I had taken about a week off of work because i had been running. There is no accentive to move into management and the contracts managers have to sign are ridiciulous and even break labor laws. if you work 5+ hrs you get a paid 15 min break. When it's real busy they make you work 5 ten hour days. They play favorites here in this store, there was two managers who put in word for me to become a sales person whoever that was several months ago and nothing more has been said or even attempted to remind the hr lady about this posistion. It's highly irritating too that my manager (or HR), consistently. She was a strong leader, worked with me, was inclusive, and kept mine and my coworker's list of tasks reasonable but fulfilling and productive. High turnover due to workers being burnt out/overworked, stressed out, and/or no job security from there write up happy policies & procedures for petty things. First off, working in the warehouse versus the retail store are two very different places. You have to punch in and out of that break room so that they can make sure that you're not going over otherwise it gets deducted from your pay. Maybe if I was a caucasian male I would have been offered a lead position on the spot, or even a supervisor position. A little bit of appreciation goes a long wayseven if it is just a simple, great job or thank you for closing that $50k job. This same said employee is allowed to write lists tell people how and what to do. management is awful, closing regimen is atrocious, HR is cruel, always feels like the store is overwhelmed, Constant freight that comes in at all hours of the day, Almost guaranteed if you're scheduled close you'll be staying late, I worked as "Courtesy Patrol" which is just a glorified name for Cart pusher. They transferred him to another part of the store. And for a more in depth review see below:
We'd be yelled at if the front didn't have enough carts WHILE we were bringing carts to the front, one person can only move a huge line of carts so fast. When they "taught" me the programs I'd be using, they only ran through the basics, like how to click on things and make other things appear, nothing about how far these things should be apart, how distant the windows should be, do I have to do this, can the customer tell me no, and if so for what are they allowed to, and etc.
