Just figure out how much power the pump uses and double it and buy that much solar. I had to do some creative down throttling so that I could keep the water in my bowl. It isn't completely air tight but it will keep the rain out. Thank goodness, for the first time in two years, we can escape to a warmer climate this coming winter. If you do too, make sure you take the pump with you to pick the correct size. What makes this one different from the others is that it is a DIY solar rechargeable light-up water fountain. If you're gonna keep the batteries make sure you use a battery management system or atleast a solar charge controller? Its no fun to sit outside if you are getting eaten alive! But, I knew solar power has its limits as well. I'd eliminate the battery and the charge controller, etc.
